DANUBE DELTA - one of the most beautiful and original touristic regions from Romania.
If your soul desires peace and the curiosity sticks around, make a trip to the Danube Delta, you won't be disappointed! We present you the most important characteristics that make this region to be unique from a touristic point of view and in the same time, reasons that we'll make you spend a couple of days in this beautiful region. We go to Prahova Valley and to Mamaia so many times per year but we don't visit the most interesting touristic region from Romania.
The Delta is formed of hundreds of little rivers and brooks, braces and channels, lakes and creeks, grinds, lagoons and anchorages and – why not?! - swamps. All these have been furrowed during time on the newest land of Europe!!! Did you know that 20% from the Delta land is below the sea level?! The Danube Delta has the shape of a equilateral triangle with sides of about 80 km and thus is one of the most large water areas from the world!! Delta was formed across more than 16.000 years and represents the biggest water cleaning system from Europe, filtering the Danubes' water on its entry in the Black Sea. The most important braces of Delta are Chilia, Sulina and Sfantul Gheorghe. The most spectacular lakes: Isac, Gorgova, Rosu, Lumina etc. And what can be more romantic than watching a sunset from the motorboat, in the golden reflections of the sun, among willows....
NATURE AND PLANTS from Danube Delta are probably one of the most complex occurrence of nature. On this land you can find sand hills, oak forests, lakes covered with white water lilies, floating isles (that sink and reappear arbitrarily). Danube Delta has „old forests” with trees of over 1.000 years old and also „new forests”, the most known being Caraorman and Letea. You will discover the sand shrub and lianas with exotic origins ( their North boundary), plants with floating leaves, rushes, watercress, water „riga”, poplar, alder, ash, white willow and other. The researchers decided that in Danube Delta there are about 1.600 plant species. We must admit their diversity and understand that this thing captivates every year more and more tourists. Only here you will succeed to see ,in a couple of days, the forests covered with lianas and also the mischievous sand of the sand hills...
STOPOVER OF THE MIGRATORY BIRDS - Danube Delta represents the stopover place in the winter way of almost all migratory birds from Europe. Even if the migratory birds don't winter in the Danube Delta, they do a stopover here, in the Wings Heaven, to rest and feed, and to strengthen for a new journey! In the Delta don't stopover only the birds that migrate from North to South but also those from West to East. In the Danube Delta there are over 330 species of birds. There exists birds of Mongolian, Chinese, Siberian, Mediterranean and European type. Such a bird variety is unique in the world. On every return in the Danube Delta, in different periods of the year, you will have the possibility to see new migratory birds due to the fact that only 170 species of birds roost! On the Danube Delta territory the most common species are the gulls and the cormorants. But you can also see unique birds such as the small and big aigrette, night heron, yellow heron, purple heron, „little gypsy”, spoon bill, white-tailed, harriers, eagles and hawks. The biggest part of the European population of common pelican (Pelicanus onocrotalus) and curly pelican (Pelicanus crispus). In the Delta there are about 60% from the world population of small cormorant (Phalacrocorax pygmeus) and 50% from the world population of redneck goose (Branta ruficollis)! Danube Delta represents one of the most large water area from the world, especially as habitat of water birds.
FISHING in the Danube Delta. It's almost impossible to come in the Danube Delta and not to fish! Many owners of mansions and hotels have organized hatcheries in order to reestablish the values of the Delta. At this moment over 80 species of fish are encountered in the Danube Delta! Bass, Zander, Pike, Sturgeons, Sheat fish, Roach, Tench, Bream, Rudd, Gold fish, Carp – are only one of the species that can be fished. The lucky ones can find pike and even sheat fish! It is said that in the Delta has been fished sheat fish of 400 kg...
